Custom Experience

It's not just a ring — it's a symbol that speaks without words.

We work with couples who seek more than convention — they seek meaning. A ring with a story, thoughtfully sourced, hand-crafted, deeply personal.

Each piece begins long before it reaches the studio — on fossicking journeys through Australia’s untouched landscapes.

One-of-a-kind is not a phrase. It is our promise. A Stone River Gems ring is never lifted from a display; it is created solely for you.

The journey:

At Stone River Gems, we travel regularly to fossick and ethically source new Australian gemstones. Because of this seasonal fieldwork — and our commitment to a slow, considered design process — we only take on a limited number of custom ring commissions each year.

We recommend reaching out early to secure your place in our custom schedule.

What designs can I select from?

Stone River Gems offers three customisable ring styles — the single stone, the three stone, and our signature five stone — each available in a variety of alloys. Throughout the design process, we’ll guide you through your options and provide a hand-drawn sketch to bring your vision to life.

Our signature alloy is a bespoke blend of yellow and rose gold, crafted into a softened, romantic hue with a touch of vintage character.

The story behind our 5-stone ring:

True luxury, like true love, is slow-made, deeply considered, and everlasting. Our signature handmade engagement ring was dreamt up for the woman who values timelessness over trends and craftsmanship over convention; a piece imbued with meaning, designed to endure, and entirely her own.

Inspired by the five pillars of marriage — Trust, Respect, Communication, Commitment, and Love — this reimagined five-stone classic is shaped by hand in our boutique studio. No casts, no shortcuts, only the slow art of old-world craftsmanship.

What is handcrafted?

Handcrafted jewellery is made the traditional way — by human hands, not machines. While most modern pieces are designed with CAD software and mass-produced in moulds, our rings are carved, shaped, and individually set. This slower process not only makes every piece truly one-of-a-kind, it also ensures superior quality and durability, with each detail carefully refined to create an heirloom that is truly yours.

What gemstones can I choose from?

Our collection is a celebration of Australia’s natural brilliance — sapphires, zircons, garnets, topaz, peridot, amethyst, citrine, quartz — unearthed on our fossicking journeys across the outback.

All of the stones we fossick are carefully faceted in-house with expert precision — (no heat treatments, no enhancements) natural and untreated just as nature intended.

If you have a specific vision in mind, we’re happy to help source non-Australian or lab-grown gemstones upon request.

*Our Australian gemstones are fossicked by us or otherwise sourced in-person  — ensuring quality and traceability.

Can I just purchase a gemstone?

You're welcome to purchase our ethically sourced Australian gemstones as standalone pieces. We only supply expertly cut and polished stones — no rough material. If you wish, we’re happy to liaise directly with your jeweller to help bring your design to life.

*Please note: Loose gemstones cannot be shipped via our standard courier. For security and insurance reasons, these purchases are arranged privately—either VIP hand delivery or collection from our studio.

What gemstones do you recommend for engagement rings?

For everyday rings like engagement rings and wedding bands, we always recommend sapphires — including Parti sapphires.

Sapphires are one of the hardest and most durable natural gemstones, second only to diamonds on the Mohs (hardness) scale. This means they can stand up to daily wear without easily scratching, chipping or dulling over time.

Made to order policy:

Once your chosen gemstone and preferred cut have been confirmed, full payment is required to secure the stone. As each piece is custom-curated to your specifications, we are unable to offer refunds for change of mind.

For custom ring commissions, a deposit schedule will be agreed upon before production begins. Final payment must be received in full prior to delivery. Any alterations requested after production has commenced may incur additional charges.

I'm ready to begin:

Please contact us with your preferred design (pictures are helpful), alloy, stones, and budget and we'll be in touch to bring your vision to life.

As a boutique atelier run solely by Khan & Katrina, we may sometimes be away — fossicking under the southern sky or journeying through the outback in search of stones. If so, we kindly ask for your patience, and will return your message as soon as we’re back in the studio.
